Album Redesigns

Services: Editorial Design, Magazine Layout, Typography, Publication Design

Project Description:

This editorial design project focused on creating a magazine spread highlighting the life, work, and lasting influence of designer David Carson. Drawing inspiration from Carson's experimental approach to typography and layout, I designed a publication that reflects both his unconventional design style and his journey as a creative pioneer. Through intentional use of hierarchy, composition, imagery, and type, the magazine tells the story of Carson's career while capturing the energy, disruption, and innovation that have defined his impact on contemporary graphic design.

Process:

The project began with research into David Carson's career, design philosophy, and contributions to the field of graphic design. I then translated these findings into a multi-page editorial layout, experimenting with typography, grid structures, image placement, and visual hierarchy to create an engaging reading experience. Throughout the design process, I focused on maintaining readability while incorporating elements inspired by Carson's unconventional style.

Reflection

This project strengthened my understanding of editorial design, typography, and visual storytelling. By researching David Carson's life and career, I was able to create a magazine that not only informs readers about his influence on graphic design but also reflects the bold, unconventional spirit of his work. Through the use of expressive typography, strong imagery, and dynamic layouts, I explored how design can communicate personality and emotion beyond written content. This project challenged me to balance readability with creativity while developing a publication that captures both Carson's legacy and his lasting impact on the design industry.
